Landscape Design and Management PlanningPacific OpenSpace, Inc. designs landscapes of natural plant communities that are aesthetically compatible with golf courses. This includes native grass roughs, riparian corridors, oak woodland, and decorative natural landscapes. Pacific OpenSpace also prepares compatible mitigation plans that may be required as part of construction permitting. We create practical land management systems that may be implemented by our staff, other land management firms, or by the grounds keeping staff. |

Reduction of Water UseNative plants, selectively chosen and located, will thrive with the natural rainfall cycles of California. Following the initial establishment period, irrigation is no longer required. In some highly visible landscapes with ample water supplies, there exists the option of keeping the plants lush by irrigating, although irrigation could be suspended in drought years. |

Classic Golf Course DesignThe classic links courses, like Saint Andrews, feature fairways surrounded by roughs of low to medium grasses. California native perennial grasses and wildflowers, available in a wide variety of colors and heights, can replicate much of the appearance of the links. |

Compatibility with Golf Course FunctionA common design goal of golf courses is to fit seamlessly into the surrounding natural environment and yet still accommodate the more intensive uses on fairways, cart paths, buildings and roads. California native grass species can be chosen and placed to allow both a seamless fit and unhampered play. |

Ease of ManagementMaintenance techniques and equipment already in use by the golf course maintenance crews can be easily adapted to manage California native vegetation, thus making efficient use of existing resources. |

Meeting Mitigation RequirementsGolf course construction, expansion or alteration may adversely impact existing natural vegetation. Frequently, government agencies require mitigation work as a condition of permitting. Pacific OpenSpace, Inc. can establish native plant communities to meet your mitigation requirements. |
